Scientists have proved many times that human mind can NOT resist a good story.

Whether it has something to do with our upbringing as civilisation, or story genuinely being an easier way for our brain to remember things, it remains one of the most powerful marketing/branding tools as well as it creates the most engaging conversations and meaningful connections.

Stories drive our lives, our dreams, they are the reasons we achieve what we achieve, and they are also the reasons that make us fail...

The reason it happens is because there is one, the most important Story, that lives in your mind rent free. That Story is the reason your life today is the way it is. Going forward that Story will define what will happen to you this year & every other year to come, whether you like it or not. Unless you re-write it.

It is Your Life Story.

"I'm an average child, from a simple family"

"There is nothing special about me"

"I've been bullied, so I promised myself to grow up and be strong"

In fact, here is a piece of my Story:

One night, I was only about 5 y.o., my parents took their friend to hospital. They weren't planning to be long and since I was sleeping, just left me there and went. I woke up.

Realising that no one is at home made me very scared & God knows why, but in my mind it was very clear that my parents were abducted by aliens. Don't ask me why... maybe because I was watching too much of The X Files haha, but it was clear to me like a day that this is exactly what has happened!

Now, it seems funny, but then it was the most scary thing. In that moment I gave myself a promise to be strong and brave to one day find my family and to avenge their absence. World no longer was a safe place...

And do you think it's just a funny story that stopped there?

"You can't trust anyone"

"World is a dangerous place..."

"Trust takes years to build..."

"Everyone is here for themselves"

"Don't cry, just deal with it"

All that and much more came out of that one event & made me act accordingly even when I was 20 y.o.

See, we are constantly learning about the world around us, and unless we unlearn, all those childhood memories stay with us forever, quietly (subconsciously) shaping our behaviour today.

It took me some time (about 30 years) to realise & deal with this. To transform my world into a safe and enjoyable place. To be able to trust without holding back. To be open. Be Me...

There is endless amount of stories in our heads. Some old, others are recent. Some have been influencing us for years, others just grew out of the previous ones just to reinforce them. And that's how, step by step, we create one big and so important Story about who we are & what Life is like.

We have proof, our own evidence that it's true! But!

But have you ever wandered, how two people, who have been involved in the same situation, remember it so differently? They chose to focus on & tell completely different stories based on the same evidence! It used to annoy me a lot :)

But that is the point exactly. Story that you tell is just a story... & your learned way of thinking, acting and feeling. The way you choose to see and interpret a situation. Which in return will massively affect what and how you are going to do about it.

So think now:

What do you tell yourself about yourself when no one is listening?

What do you think of the world around you? Truly.

& the time you live in?

What do you think about work & money?

About relationships and dreams?

Ant then reflect:

Are you sure all that is 💯 correct?

What made you think so? What stories created that vision in you?

Does it serve your dreams, ideas or will create difficulties getting there?

Be honest with yourself & before you go off writing down another yearly resolution, make sure that the story you tell yourself won't stop you from achieving it 🤍

Until the next time,

Renta Dar
